The best way to Prune the Rosa Persian Yellow Rose

The Persian Yellow Rose (Rosa foetida), found in 1837, is regarded an old garden rose. It’s not an easy rose to grow as it’s susceptible to black spot and illness. Some gardeners believe the gorgeous 2 1/2-foot blossoms are worth the energy required to keep this plant wholesome. Suitable for Sunset’s Environment Zones 9b to 10a, Rosa Persian Yellow Rose does nicely in a casual backyard environment with its thorns, aromatic foliage and inclination to distribute.

Cut broken and dead wood off soon after following the rose finishes blooming. Cut at a 45-degree angle, just bud; a shoot will develop in the node.

Cut out all root suckers or pull off — stems growing below the foundation where the rose was grafted into a root stock or from below the soil line.

As Rosa Persian Yellow Rose doesn’t like large pruning cut each flowering shoot straight back only several inches.
