How to Cut Cement Board Around a Toilet Flange

Board is the backer board for ceramic tile on floors or walls. It’s easy to cut and install, it is impervious to water, and provides a strong substrate. Cuts are made like drywall, but due to the fiberglass net and the cement interior, there is a cut a little harder, although doable.

Assess the size and location of the toilet flange. Mark the center of where the cement board will be strike on by the flange.

Create a cutter that is home made by adding one of those screws close and screw it all of the way through the center point on the cement board.

Insert the other screw thread about a 1/2 inch further from the center screw than the radius of the flange. If the flange is 6 inches, then set the screw in the one. Allow this screw to stretch from the base of the timber about 1/4 inch’s purpose.

Twist the cutter that is home made around, applying slight pressure to score the surface of the cement plank in a perfect circle. Flip over the cement board and repeat the process on the opposite side. Pop out the piece with a hammer.
